Seems my mileage has been going backwards lately. I peaked back in April and have been steadily running less and less. I've been skipping several days in a row and just generally not running up to my full potential. I'm not sure what's going on, but I'm trying to push myself a little less physically and hopefull that will bring my mojo back.
Most recently I ran 3.07 miles on Wednesday morning. This was an out the door run instead of driving to the park. Part of the reason for my mileage decrease may have to do with boredom of the same old routes. I'm not sure that's it, though.
Anyway, yesterday I did 3 solid miles. Everything felt good. My body felt rested and ready to run. I decided I only wanted to do 3 miles because I could easily do it in 30 minutes and still be back home in time to water the garden before showering and getting ready for work. My first mile was about average for me at 9:38. I sped up a little for mile 2, finishing it in 9:21. About a quarter of the way into my third mile I decided to see how fast I could make it back home. I leaned forward and let my legs carry me as fast as I thought I could get away with and still make it home. I finished the third mile in 8:10. I was pleased with that, and I'm sure it was my fastest mile ever. That little success has boosted my spirits a little and I'm ready for another run tomorrow. I do want to do a full 4 miles, but I want to take it a little easier.
For motivation, I'm going to plan on running a local 5K on June 25. That's one month from yesterday. I'd like to be able to average somewhere in the low to mid 8's per mile for a 26 minute 5K. If I'm going to do that I've got some work to do.
Today's Stats: I did 3.07 miles in 27:41 for an average pace of 9:01/mile.
